Piriformis Syndrome Exercises

What is the Piriformis Syndrome?
Piriformis Syndrome can really affect your day to day live by aggravating your sciatic nerve and causing you to become, in some cases, immobile. Piriformis is a Syndrome that causes pain in the Sciatic nerve by irritating it or pressing against it and causing it to become extremely painful when enflamed. Though the pain is similar to Sciatica disorder, it’s not the same and the location could most definitely differ. Where Sciatica can be located in the thigh, lower back, thigh and upper leg, Piriformis Syndrome caused pain in the buttocks, down the leg and into the foot even.

Piriformis is most common in women and active individuals who tend to use their legs more for example, runners or walkers. Piriformis syndrome can flare up when the muscle of the Piriformis becomes tight or spasms against the Sciatic nerve which can cause the pain to occur since the Sciatic nerve runs just underneath the Piriformis muscle. There are no cures for this syndrome but there are specially developed exercises and ways to ease the pain and inflammation of the Sciatica nerve. When the Piriformis muscle becomes tense or tight, it’s important to try and relax it by alternating between a cold and hot compression.

Are there any special Piriformis exercises treatment?
After the muscles are relaxed and rested, one can begin working on strengthening the muscle without putting strain on it. This is a far easier and more effective way in dealing with pain from Piriformis syndrome and could help to prevent it entirely. Piriformis exercises can be done at home if you know what you are doing. The Piriformis exercises are simple and easy to do, basically being simple stretching exercises to strengthen the back to an extent where the muscle will not spasm again. This can protect you from pain in the future if it is done every day and will keep you from seeking more expensive help.
